Travel Tip for International Attendees

Hotels typically hold hotel room reservations until Midnight of the day it starts. After that they may make the room available for other guests. If you are traveling to the conference from abroad and might arrive at the hotel later than 12:00 a.m. please contact the hotel as soon as possible. Inform them that you may be delayed and are requesting a delayed check-in. This will help ensure your room is waiting for you when you arrive.
 

AIRPORT TRANSPORTATION

Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport is the closest of three major airports in the Washington metropolitan area to Washington, DC.  Information counters are located in all terminals. Information is available regarding ground transportation such as buses, taxi, and shuttles.  In addition, Travelers Aid helpdesks are located in Terminal A and Terminals B and C.  A free shuttle bus runs between the car parks and all terminals every six or seven minutes.


METRORAIL

The Metrorail provides safe, clean, reliable transit service throughout the Washington, DC area.  The Metrorail has six color-coded rail lines: Red, Orange, Silver, Blue, Yellow and Green. The layout of the system makes it possible to travel between any two stations with no more than a single transfer.

Arriving from Ronald Reagan Washington Airport – connects directly to Metrorail’s Yellow and Blue Lines.  Follow the signs to the covered walkways and into the station.

A trip from the Ronald Reagan Washington Airport to the Walter E Washington Convention Center (Mount Vernon Square Station) takes 15 minutes and costs $2.75 (during Peak hours) & $2.20 (during Off-Peak hours)

CAR RENTAL AT THE AIRPORT

Rental car access is easy at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. On-Airport rental car counters are located on the first floor in Terminal Garage A. Proceed directly to the rental car counters if you have an existing reservation or need to make a reservation.

There are two ways to reach the pick up location for rental cars from the airport. 

  • Ride: Board the “Parking / Rental Car” shuttle which stops at each terminal outside baggage claim. Get off at the Terminal Garage A/Rental Car stop.
  • Walk: Follow signs towards Terminal Parking Garage A, approximately 10 minutes from Terminals A & B and 15 minutes from Terminal C.

Meeting rates include unlimited mileage and are subject to availability. Advance reservations are recommended, blackout dates may apply. Government surcharges, taxes, tax reimbursement, airport related fees, vehicle licensing fees and optional items, such as refueling or additional driver fees, are extra. Minimum rental age is 20 (age differential charge for 20-24 applies). Standard rental conditions and qualifications apply. Vehicles must be returned to the renting location. In the continental U.S. and Canada, weekend rentals are available for pickup between noon Thursday and noon Sunday and must be returned no later than Monday at 11:59 p.m. Thursday pickup requires a minimum three-day keep. Friday pick-up requires a minimum two-day keep, and Saturday and Sunday pickup require a one-day keep. Weekly rentals are from five to seven days. Extra day rate for weekly rentals will be 1/5 of the weekly rate.

Taxi service is available from The Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport to downtown.  Estimated fare to a downtown destination is approximately $20 depending on location.  (Please take rush hour into account when calculating time and fare).
