B5 SMOKERS WITH PRESERVED SPIROMETRY: EARLY COPD?

Monday

Type : Scientific Symposium

Description

Despite the known health effects of tobacco smoking, a large proportion of smokers have preserved spirometry, and only a third go on to develop chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. This symposium focuses on the latest research on smokers, with evidence of abnormalities in some despite normal spirometric lung function, whether it is possible to identify those at risk of future lung function decline, and whether they warrant clinical intervention. This will be a unique opportunity to draw together exciting recent data ranging from large cohort studies such as SPIROMICS and COPDGene, imaging studies, to sophisticated tests of small airway function, and cellular and molecular changes in this population within a larger context.
