This session aims to raise discussions on the changing profile of pneumonia, especially with introduction of pneumococcal vaccines and other emerging infections. It summarizes contemporary debates on how lung infection spreads to the pleural cavity, the best way to capture organisms of empyema, and provides practical guide on the use of intrapleural tPA DNase therapy. The two speakers will highlight key research areas in pneumonia and empyema.
