Description

Apolipoproteins are emerging as significant immune modulators in the pathogenesis of asthma and other lung diseases. They have been shown to decrease inflammation, counter oxidative stress and enhance adaptive immunity and host defense in various murine models of asthma and other lung diseases. Both apolipoprotein E (apoE) and apolipoprotein A-I (apoA-I) are expressed by lung cells, and they appear to have protective roles in lung biology. Apolipoproteins may represent potential new therapies for patients who are not responding to currently available options for diseases such as asthma.
